BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd’s 20 MW/ 40 MWh project is India’s first utility-scale standalone battery energy storage system to obtain regulatory approval under Section 63 of the Electricity Act, 2003. The project is supported by concessional loan from the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP).
What is BSES Rajdhani power project?
The Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) issued regulatory approval to a 20 MW/ 40 MWh BESS at the 33/11 kV Kilokari sub-station belonging to BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd, the largest power distribution company in Delhi with close to 30 lakh consumers. The project will enable 24/7 power for over 12,000 low-income consumers.
When will BRPL's 20 mw/40 MWh Bess be installed?
“The 20 MW/40 MWh BESS was delivered on a turnkey basis under a long-term battery energy storage capacity agreement (BESPA) with BRPL. Installed and commissioned in just 11 months, ahead of schedule, the system became operational in April 2025.
What is Bess project?
The BESS project has been designed to integrate renewable energy into the distribution level grid system, facilitate grid stabilization, manage peak power demand, and address various ancillary needs. It will support in lowering power procurement costs and defer the need to upgrade the capacity at the Kilokari 33/11 kV power substation.
